Facts About Medical Negligence

Pharmaceutical errors are a type of medical malpractice and are a violation of the trust a patient puts not only on the doctor but the entire medical profession. The medical profession is filled with outstanding doctors that put forth a high standard in treating patients, prescribing medication, and following up with their patients. But sometimes the wrong medication or the wrong dosage of a medication is prescribed either due to an erroneous diagnosis or negligence by the doctor, hospital staff, or pharmacy.

A 1990 study of prescription pharmaceutical errors in teaching hospitals detected an estimated 3.13 errors for each 1,000 orders written, and a rate of 1.81 significant errors per 1,000 orders. The high number of orders and the hectic nature of general and teaching hospitals makes it quite a task to get all of the medication and prescription orders correct.

The most common errors where prescription medication is concerned is the volume of dosage given to patients. Other possible medication errors include:

  • Misdiagnosis
  • Misinterpretation of Prescription
  • Prescription Errors
  • Pharmacy Fraud

The quality of healthcare and pharmaceuticals is very high in this country with superb standards other countries observe and assimilate into their own healthcare systems. When medication errors occur and result in personal injuries and fatalities, it is a blight not only to our medical system but to our country itself.

If you have suffered or know someone who is suffering from medical malpractice, please contact us now.

Every Single Drug That Affects The Body Will Have Some Side Effects

Since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers both the benefits and risks of all medications before approval, side effects are generally not serious. For every drug FDA approves, the benefits are balanced against its risks.
